  1. Manawar added a post in a topic DCS: BLACKSHARK KA-50 vs DCS: A10C WARTHOG

    Hello Synergy,
That isn't a easy question to answer as they are 2 completely different SIM's I will tell you that both are done VERY well and are a fantastic representation of real study sim. They both have a high level of fidelity and they both have a strong learning curve. Where is your interest? Are you more into fixed wing aircraft or rotors? Both aircraft are incredible against ground targets and both have a high level of game play within the multi-player community.
In my honest opinion GET BOTH!
    Thanks for posting!

IFF - Identification Friend or Foe
    Hello gents!

Noticing some accidently teamkilling by new players on the server lately, here is a brief summary of how to IFF (identify friend or foe) in both Nato and Russian fighter aircraft.

    ------------- NATO:

F-15C RADAR MFD: On the radar MFD in the F15C you will notice 2 different types of target indicators in both STT and TWS: bars like " - " are enemy aircraft, and dots are friendly.

In TWS mode that is the same, accept that you have a small line attached to it, indicating the targets heading in reference to your aircraft.

F-15C HUD: Once you lock a target in the F15C, a target box will be displayed in your HUD. If you have locked on a target, and see no box, that means, the target is "outside" of your HUD. Manouver your nose towards the target, until you see the box in the HUD. If there is a X through your target box, that means your target is friendly. That is to be checked espacially if you use your radar submodes like boresight and vertical scan!

    -------------- RUSSIAN AC:

Russian fighter RADAR MFD: If datalink is active via EWR or AWACS, or if you are "painting" a target with your Radar in TWS mode, on your radar MFD, enemy aircraft will appear as triangles and friendly aircraft will appear as dots or filled circles. Otherwise you have to LOCK your target with RADAR, in order to get proper IFF.

NOTE: EOS/IRST locks do not give away IFF - you have to confirm with radar lock first, prior firing, unless you are 100% sure that your target is an enemy! EOS lock will ALLWAYS display a triangle on the MFD, not matter if friend or foe!

Russian fighter HUD: Most of the time you will use your radar display on the HUD, if you are in weapons mode with radar on. In the HUD of russian fighter aircraft, enemy aircraft painted by your radar will appear as small double bars like " -- " for fighter AC, single like " - " for small AC like Drones, and four small bars like " ---- " for large AC like Tankers, AWACS etc.

In size the same applies for friendly AC, except that they are double lined like " = " for small, or " == " for fighter sized, or " ==== " for large FRIENDLY aircraft.

Additionaly, if you lock a friendly target with radar, you will see in your left bottom corner of your HUD an F (if you use english hud) or C (if you use russian hud) indicating, that you locked a friendly.

Russian fighter radar sub-modes: If you use boresight, shlem (helmet-view) or vertical scan, you have to check for the "F" or "C" in the left bottom corner of your hud, or on the MFD, wether you have locked a triangle (foe) or circle (friendly). Again: In EOS/IRST you WILL NOT GET ANY IFF in any of the submodes, too.

    ------------- IFF BREVITY:

Appropriate brevity: If your are not sure despite everything (like if you lock ECM strobes) or if you are sure, that you locked a friendly (accidently or on purpose to find out who it is) ALLWAYS say RAYGUN on comms or type in chat. The proper reply by the friendly should be BUDDYSPIKE (SPIKE = LOCK IN BREVITY) or BUDDY ECM if his ECM is on. By that you do not spook your teammates and know who you are looking at. Never lock friendlies longer then absolutely necessary! (as you will block their Radar Warning Reciever to recognize other and maybe serious threads!) Note again: A friendly will not get a lock warning from your EOS and thus cannot respond to your "RAYGUN" call, unless you lock him with radar.

I know it looks a lot, but you will see, that you can get used to it in no time! I hope it helps! Just set up a quick mission in the mission editor and put some friendly and enemy non fighter aircraft in it and play a bit around with your radar. Do that once, and you should remember it for all times

Allways remember to fly and play safe for your teammates - and to enjoy the game of course!
    In other words...

    Teamspeak Server Rules
    104th Teamspeak Rules:

    1. You must use Push to talk.

    2. If you are flying please move to the proper channels in TeamSpeak (like Air to Ground or Air to Air, etc.). The general room is not for in game communications.

    3. No talking on comms in brevity channels unless you have something important* to say.

    Important* is defined as:

    1. Call your number to lead to confirm you've heard him.
    2. Call blind.
    3. Respond to a state request.
    4. Contact  (Visual or Radar)
    5. RWR (spike, nails)
    6. Other pertinent flight info.

    7. If you do not know the proper brevity for some thing use your english to just say it BRIEFLY.
Make sure it is relevant please. Keep chatter to an absolute minimum please.

If you are new to and learning brevity please use the "Relaxed" Channels. Here you will still be expected to do your best to keep your chatter to a minimum as well but you are free to ask for help regarding how to use and practice proper brevity.

If you would rather not use brevity then you are welcome to join our TS and use the main DCS channels (not the general channel) for this purpose.

  8. IronMike added a topic in Banned Box

Why and how we ban? Read here!
You think you have been banned? This is the place to sit in - and bring forth your matter.
    How and why we ban:
    0. Know this: we want you to fly in here! But: We want everybody to enjoy the same fairness and the same fun!
    1. Our rules are meant to provide the best fun to everybody on our server. They are not meant to mock you.
    2. If you are new, take it easy - mistakes will always be forgiven. Rather ask twice though. Maybe practice offline a bit, before you feel ready to join a "hardcore" server.
    3. If you - for whatever reason - offended our rules, other players or admins - it most likely got you kicked and eventually banned.
    4. We ban for minor offenses 1 to 2 weeks.
    5. For deliberately bad and offensive behaviour or on-purpose teamkilling - we ban 1 month.
    6. After that the ban will be lifted and you may reenter.
    7. However, if you keep offending or breaking the rules and turn out to be stubborn and just destructive towards other people's game - you will get banned for a very long time.
    8. Changing your IP or getting a new game, DCS account etc. will not help you in that case. WE WILL TRACK YOU. There are very few who fit into this category and we are on the lookout.
    9. If you understood what you have done, if you had a bad day or maybe an attack of late puberty or consumed a few glasses of beer too many and feel sorry about it - TELL US!
    10. We are always open for discussion, and we rather have you understand what fair sportsmanship is than have you stay out of our server.

    Winners 104th Screenshot Contest 2014
We are proud to announce the winners of the 2014 104th Phoenix VFBS Christmas Screenshot contest!

First of all we would like to thank you all for your submissions. You can believe us, it was no easy choice for us and we are greatful and proud of all of your submissions. In the end we had to make a choice though, and it came down to this. Congratulations to the winner and hopefully better luck for everybody else the next time! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

    1. Place Winner: "C-130 landing" - by Octuplefire

Congratulations to the Winner! We hope you enjoy your DCS Module of choice!

Jury's Note: This clear image of a landing C-130 in morning fog and sun hides more than it reveals: We see two dim lights fading in the glowing fog - shivering cold and silence shroud the winter landscape in mystery, yet the colors, shades, shadows and shapes are crystal clear in this beautiful arrangement that reveals such great detail and precision of scenery. We can only guess what this morning will bring. New soldiers, prepping for yet another fight? Secret material for the front? The imagination gets the better of you while looking at this image and opens up yet another world of fantastic stories in the DCS Universe. Congratulations!

    2. Place Winner: "A Frog on approach" - by Barthek

    Congratulations to the Winner!

Jury's Note: The amazing depth of field, the brilliant colors and the strong character of this beautiful aircraft are breath-taking in this wonderful image. Rarely seen, your view gets carried away over the vast snow-blue scenery and yet rests strongly on the powerful display of the Frogfoot! It truely displays the greatness of DCS World at its core, with this first and foremost representative of it. At the same time the image is both a historic and contemporary embrace of our marvellous hobby. Congratulations!

    3. Place Winner: "MiG-15 - a Rising Star" - by Schweehog

    Congratulations to the Winner!

Jury's Note: While simple at first glance, the longer you watch, the more the beautiful glow and light get through to the viewer's eye, as if emerging from the dark. The glowing metal in the evening winter sun, the powerful and characteristic ascent of the MiG-15 making its way up, up, up into the sky... here we really take a peek at a Rising Star in the DCS Consortium. Congratulations!

Honorable Mention, 4th Place: "Der schnelle Kurfürst" - by Derbysieger

Jury's Note: The power of the Kurfürst rushing through the winter sky - this image gives us a clear sense of speed, combined with the dreamyness of the still of the flare above and a sleeping winter landscape below - as if the world would hold its breath for a moment. In this contradiction it is simply beautiful. Thank you!

Honorable Mention, 5th Place: "The Magnificent 8" - by roeney12

Jury's Note: An Mi-8 steadily progressing through the cold winter haze, patrolling the surrounding city and landscape with an ever watchful eye: this snapshot freezes the capture of movement for us just in time, as if it would stop only to show off its magnificence. Enchanted by the suns corona it is a truly beautiful display of force. Thank you!

Honorable Mention, 6th Place: "A not so Christmas falling" - by SLAMRAAM

Jury's Note: Been there, done that or not so much we hope. This very clever selection of a scene without any aircraft gives a nice and atmospheric insight in the great variety of what one might discover in the DCS World. The downed pilot struggling to get up, the folding parachute, the attending soldiers, ready to capture the poor fellow, all of them freezing on duty in a snow-covered forest, maybe dreaming of their families preparing for Christmas in a warm home... It all seems far away and loved ones are being missed dearly. An event truly unfolding a tragic chain of effects that makes us all appreciate we can enjoy it in a virtual environment - safe and warm at home for Christmas... Thank you!

And last, but not least: The Funny One: "DCS: Christmas Tree" - by rainbowtwo

Jury's Note: Dude, you made us laugh. A LOT! The DCS Christmas Tree... 'nough said. Thank you!

We hope you enjoyed these as much as we did. We are definately looking forward to the next screenshot contest and hope those of you who haven't been mentioned this time get more lucky next time.

With some of your screenshots we have been impressed a lot, so with your kind permission, we would like to the show them on our new homepage that we will announce soon.

Until then we all wish you Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2015. May it bring you luck and happiness!
