    Hi all, new guy here. Gobblin. Flew a little on the server the last few days and decided that rather than flying around with no SA of any friendlies I'd join up and get on TS3 and talk to people. Anyways, my background is aviation and I've been flying in DCS for a few years now. In the real world I'm checked out in the Cessna 172, 182, Diamond DA40, DA42 and DA20, T-6 Texan/SNJ, Stearman, P-51, Waco, Bonanza, Baron, Extra 300, Super Decathalon, T-33, Citation Mustang and the King Air. I hold a NATA Wing and Lead card for formation flying in the T6 and a CFII MEI. I'm an A&P/IA and avionics tech and my day job is flying most of the above airplanes and building/flight testing optics and sensors for military aircraft. The T-33 is our flight test platform. The sensors we develop are for air data measurement and we are working on the certification of a laser based air data system on civil aircraft. Hoping to get better at DCS with you guys some hopefully I can score some 1 on 1 instruction and in exchange I'll try to answer as many questions you may have about the paragraph above.

    Hello 104th... Today we had an enjoyable time in Banja Luka, capital city of Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Me and my friend (squadmate) =238.lbae=Fenix met finally my many years DCS friend TIGER. We did not have much time but we have a good talk and a little fooling around...     Guys i have made a change to the forest base shader file, extract folder and drop into your DCS directory from this attachment https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wk6awif7li4ozq/Subforest shader update 1.14.rar?dl=0 This adjustment makes the forests blend far better with the surrounding terrain and gives and good impression of blending as the trees stop rendering at a distance I'll be including these files in future versions of this mod

His tireless dedication to pass on knowledge to new pilots in the DCS community, as well as old ones, espacially in the fiel of Air Combat Manouvering, has earned him this promotion more than double. Spade has been one of the Squadrons top performers over the past 5 years and has shown he can excel and dominate his opponent(s) no matter what changes are added to the sim.     The extent of corrosion damage on the U.S. military's F/A-18 Hornet fleet is requiring more maintenance than expected, an admiral said. The Navy and Marine Corps are flying the legacy fighter jets longer than planned -- 10,000 flight hours, up from 6,000 flight hours -- because of delays in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, according to Navy Rear Adm. Michael Manazir, the service's director of air warfare. As a result, the 1980s-era, twin-engine aircraft is experiencing a high degree of wear and tear, including corrosion. "The corrosion impacts, I would say, caught us by surprise," he said this week during a Navy and Marine Corps aviation conference on Capitol Hill. "When we opened them up and realized the extent of the corrosion damage, we realized we couldn't just replace the parts we were going to replace. We had to put those airplanes aside." There are approximately 620 F-18A/D Hornets currently in service, according to a 2015 report on naval programs. The Marine Corps still flies the aircraft as a frontline fighter, while the Navy operates the plane behind the newer F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. Marines in recent months have flown F-18s to strike militants affiliated with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. COMPOSITE VS METAL The services had been replacing worn out parts and other components on the F/A-18 as part of a maintenance program to ensure the aircraft could reach a service life of 6,000 flight hours, Manazir said. Extending that engineering effort to yield 10,000 flight hours "would normally be a straightforward task -- if it weren't for the corrosion created by the environments we operate in," he said. Complicating the effort was an assumption made by the Navy decades ago that the Hornet, as a composite aircraft, wouldn't require the same level of corrosion-prevention work as older, mostly metal planes, such as the F-14 Tomcat, A-6 Intruder and the A-7 Corsair II, Manazir said. "We had not planned on operating the Hornet past 6,000 hours," he said. "So we did not do the normal corrosion control processes that we used to use on metal airplanes, like the Tomcats, A-6s, A-7s. We understood what corrosion was on metal. The science is different on corrosion on composites." In addition, the damage to the aircraft isn't uniform and appears to be affecting different parts and structures, Manazir said. "They made each airplane coming into the depot kind of a one-off," he said. "We realized we couldn't just replace the parts -- we also had to look at the corrosion on the surrounding framework." SITTING IDLE Manazir didn't say how many Hornets are down for repairs at depots. But they're among an ongoing aircraft shortfall that's estimated to be more than 100 planes through 2020, he said. The problem is exacerbated by mandatory spending caps that limit available maintenance funding, he said. "That equates to two to three squadrons," he said. What's more, the maintenance woes are not limited to F/A-18s. The Marine Corps wasn't able to deploy CH-53E Super Stallion heavy-lift helicopters to assist with earthquake relief efforts in Nepal this spring because of a wiring issue that required replacing hydraulic lines, according to Lt. Gen. Jon Davis, deputy commandant of aviation. The Corps instead dispatched to the country UH-1Y Huey helicopters and V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. The deadly May 12 helicopter crash that killed six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers is believed to have been caused by bad weather in the Himalayas.     A proud day, welcome to both of you! We win together and we lose together, honour, excellence and integrity! This means responsibility and ownership, ownership of your own actions and behaviour. Ownership of your own mistakes and failures, OWN them and learn from them, never look outside the cockpit for reasons of failure, you are responsible for every decision made in that aircraft and its fate is your responsibility. Find success in failure! If all you do is get angry when you get killed you are never going to improve. Question why you failed and evaluate solutions, be honest with yourselves, if you think you are hot shit but keep getting shot down all the time.... you are not hot shit! Never allow your ego to believe you are better than you are. You ARE going to fail ... a lot! What will decide if you make the jump from 'good' pilots to 'great' pilots is your ability to learn from these failures or not. Be there for your wingmen because they will be there for you, never run from a fight and leave your wingman in the shit, he has a duty to protect you and you have a duty to protect him, your wingman will die for you, you better make sure you are ready to die for your wingman! Remember that you are part of something that is bigger than yourself no matter how good you get, no pilot is bigger than our Squadron, YOU are part of the 104th, the 104th is NOT part of your programme! This means you are to conduct yourself like a professional when online and show respect to your opponents. Remember that everything you do and say represents our Squadron and all the work that has gone in to it since 2006, disrespecting this 12 years of heritage with inappropriate behaviour is seriously bad for your prospects as a 104th member. Never test our resolve on this, it will not end well for you. LISTEN TO WHAT YOU ARE BEING TOLD! Every winged member of this squadron is someone you can learn an incredible amount from, do not waste this opportunity, learn from everyone you fly with, ask questions, breakdown successes and failures and evaluate. It is called Complete Transport and Logistics Deployement and does exactly that. From now on Hueys and Mi-8s will be able to fulfill transport missions that will not only allow them to influence, but also to dominate the battlefield. Enter your CTLD command menu through your default radio menu and F10. What you can (and have to) do: 1. Your first task is to build a FOB in order to open a supply line. Mostly you will have to clear some light targets at an abondoned / captured FARP with your Huey or Mi-8. So take some weapons! After capturing you can land and rearm, refuel there. but you still have to build your FOB. This will increase the range of your supply line and you will be able to take crate from there. A FOB needs 3 crates to be build. the crates need to be brought from the main base where you start - read the briefing for exact locations. 2. Set up defenses. Or join the fight. You can either deploy SAMs (Kub needs one launcher and one radar), repair them (when they run out of ammo), build a defense network on strategic points, coordinate with fighters, or deploy troops on the battlefield as you see fit. 3. AA sams etc will mostly use more than one crate to be build, a TOR needs for example four crates. once you have build your fob, you can get them there and save flight time. Each chopper can carry only one crate at a time, but you can load troops additionally (manpads, etc). 4. Kubs are restricted, only a certain number can be set up. Use them wisely. 5. You have total freedom where you want to set up your sams. be strategic. repair, dont waste. and push towards bullseye, even better: push the enemy back. to be effective: coordinate with the fighters! 6. once you have deployed all crates you have to unpack all crates via the CTLD command menu. 7. when sams or other units run out of ammunition, a repair crate will refill them 8. Be daring, build even more FOBs even close to the front. dominate the battlefield and watch your sams clear the skies! We very much hope these additions will give more joy to our heli pilots and above all: we hope to promote more teamplay through this. The helis will be exposed on their quest towards the fronts, so fighters, your prime job is now to protect them. Enjoy and thank you for flying. S!     Flying low to evade aggressors is pointless as their radars will see you anyway as there are no large enough mountains to hide behind. All that flying low does is slow you down, increase fuel consumption and increase the possibility that CAP has to RTB before you are finished with the strike. Trust the CAP to do their job and aim to do the strike as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    Just showing my appreciation!

    Hey there 104th folks! At first, i thought i couldnt connect to the multiplayer server due to being kicked for being idle too long but apparently it was just my mods (i'm part of a carrier-based U.S.-Navy Virtual Squadron and we get graded on our landings by a virtual (unbiased) Landing signal officer after each mission, Download the carrier and A-7E for free if you weant from our website but just private-message me if you'd like the website i don't want to be rude and advertise our website here!) But anyways, I just wanted to thank "104th Highway" for all of his patience and help yesterday! He sat with me for about almost an hour while we did the scan and showed me how to re-install my mods afterwards so that i could still play with my buddies once or twice a week at our meetup-dates! And he even spent a few hours with me afterwards on the 104th showing me some of the ropes on the F-15C's radar andhow to best utilize some of the tactics for it!     Recently we had some changes in the cadet roster, which opened up a slot for us. We were not quite sure, if we should fill it or not, but we had our eyes on a very nice young fella, who impressed us with his promising talent and mature character despite his young age. So, we opened the slot to him, and needless to say: he not only fulfilled our expectations, he submitted his UPTs absolutely spot on! Therefore, on behalf of 104th_Command, let me say CONGRATULATIONS to 104cdt_Junior (formerly known as Random_Pilot) for passing his UPTs and earning his cadet wings.     On Saturday I had a funny chat on the server No screen so it's from my memory So I logged on the server. Said hi as usual. Then someone, Talon maybe it was you but not sure. He was flying the eagle. As you guys probably know i have the EagleEater nickname by my name, which was given to my by my friend Stuge! So he told me that I should eat him. Then I replied that it is restricted only for my gf. We lolled hard The funniest part was when I told this her. You guys should have seen her face :D

    The US Air Force (USAF) has deployed its first European theatre security package (TSP) of F-15C Eagles to Graf Ignatievo Air Base, near Plovdiv in Bulgaria. As part of the development, a troop of 200 Airmen of the 159th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron arrived in Europe, where they will fly with Nato allies and support Operation Atlantic Resolve (OAR). USAFE-AFAFRICA commander general Frank Gorenc said: "These 200 Airmen and 12 F-15s, led by the Florida National Guard and comprised of Airmen and equipment from several National Guard units, provide a strategic symbol as they represent the United States' commitment to European security and stability." OAR is a demonstration of continued US commitment to the collective security of Nato and to enduring peace and stability in the region, USAF stated.     What Planes do you want in DCS?

    Hey Comrades!!! Viper Here! Today on the server i was thinking what planes i want in DCS. It would be cool if you have more roles in the fight/war, like jamming the SAMS for the bombers, being the AWACS E3 etc... I know some pilots are bad at fighting or bombing, so DCS is useless to them, but they are good at jamming the SAMS or fighters. in DCS we only have two roles. yeah, im kinda getting off topic, but think about those things. My planes would be the F/A 18 and The Sparkbark

    Am I banned from the DCS server...?

    First of all I'm sorry to post this in the general froum, because I can not post anything in the banned box... I'm just wondering.... Because whenever I try to join the server, I always get a message "Connection Interrupted"...... And Its continued for several months. I remember the last time I get into the server, I taxied following an aircraft and get airborned, and without doing anthing, I got the "Connection Interrupted" message right in the midair... My callsigh in the game is "Archelon2", I am wondering why I get banned from the server (if I really got banneed), And if there is any possibility to remove me from the blacklist... Thank you!

    hi , i was wondering if its done on purpose that the c101eb slots cant be armed with any guns aa, or ag ? also noticed some missions where the mi8 and uh1 cant arm rockets or pods/guns... thanks for explaining.

The warning lights are relocated to the top of the Info Panel. Each wingman in your wing will have a status element in the wings interface HUD. This element displays several pieces of information: · Wing Icon: each wingman has a ID icon used to identify them in the HUD o Your own ID icon is displayed at the top left of your Comms Panel tab line · Surrounding the ID icon is a set of concentric rings showing the wingman’s ship shield status o As the shields are depleted the rings fade away · Below the shield status is a bar showing the wingman’s ship hull status o As the hull is damaged the bar is reduced · Below the hull status is the wingman’s Commander name · To the left of the Commander name is the Wingman’s voice status · Below the Commander name is the wingman’s current target o If the wingman is in a different system the system name is displayed here When a wingman targets a vessel, their ID icon will appear next to the entity when you look at it. All HUD elements connected with your wingmen are coloured cyan to help you spot them. When a vessel is hostile to a wingman, it will display with purple HUD elements to inform you of the state. When you target a vessel and perform a basic scan, the bottom left target info panel will display if the ship is in a wing, and how many members the wing has. Features There are several beneficial features that become active when you are in a wing: Wingman Targeting NEW BINDINGS DEFAULT BINDING Select Wingman 1 Not Set Select Wingman 2 Not Set Select Wingman 3 Not Set Select Wingman’s Target Not Set You can use new hotkey bindings to quickly target each wingman in your wing. If you target a wingman you will target their wake if applicable. If you target a wingman in a different system you will target their system. If you have a wingman targeted, you can use the Select Wingman’s Target binding. In addition, all scans performed by wingmen are shared across the entire wing as long as they are present at the location. Wingman Relaxed Requirements When using wakes created by your wingmen, you can travel faster and be further away and still safely use them. Wingman Crime Exemption You cannot commit crimes against wingmen, and no authorities will intervene as long as your actions do not affect other ships or structures. Cargo can be freely transferred between wingmen who all count as its owner. Crimes against non-wingmen remain personal; other wingmen are not punished directly, though they may well commit crimes if they wish to help out. Wingman nav-Lock You can slave your ship’s frame shift drive to a wingman’s vessel. Select a Commander from the Comms Contacts tab in the Comms panel who is listed under the “Wing†heading and choose: [ENGAGE WINGMAN NAV-LOCK] You will see a square marker appear on the wingman’s status element in the wing interface. When you are nav-locked, the following effects occur *automatically* if you are close enough to them. When the nav-lock marker is cyan, you are within nav-lock range. When the nav-lock maker is red, you are out of range. · You will follow the wingman into and out of super cruise o Standard requirements still apply (retracted hardpoints and gear, etc.) · You will follow the wingman into a hyperspace jump o Standard requirements still apply (retracted hardpoints and gear, capable FSD, fuel, etc.) · You will follow the wingman’s wakes o Standard requirements still apply Note, you can only slave your drive to a single wingman at a time, but you can change the nav-lock target freely. To turn off the nav-lock, select the nav-locked Commander from the Comms Contacts tab in the Comms panel who is listed under the “Wing†heading and choose: [CANCEL WINGMAN NAVLOCK] Wingman Beacon Signal When in normal space, you can activate your ship’s beacon signal, by navigating to the Functions tab, highlighting and selecting: [bEACON] Choose “Wing†to turn the beacon signal on. Choose “Off†to turn the beacon signal off. Whilst the beacon signal is on, any Commanders at super cruise in your system will see a signal contact on their sensors. You can target and drop out at a signal contact to arrive at the wingman’s location in normal space. Wingman Shared Bounties When attacking wanted vessels, every wingman that takes part in the fight, landing some hits on target will be eligible for an equal share in the bounty claim, as long as they are present when the vessel is destroyed. Wingman Trade Dividend When a wingman makes a profitable trade, all other wingmen will receive a trade dividend claim, a small, profit-based credit payment awarded by starports to encourage the protection of traders in the system. This voucher may be handed in at any starport in the system. Wingman Shared Exploration When in the same system as your wingmen, exploration data is awarded for all wingmen present, allowing the entire wing to profit. The first person to hand the data in is eligible for any bonus payment, but if the data constitutes a new discovery, all wingmen present in the system when the body was scanned will be listed as the discoverers. System Updates Heat Damage Heat damage now damages modules when ship heat reaches 100%. Whilst heat remains above this value, modules may randomly suffer small amounts of damage every few seconds. Should ship heat rise above 160%, the ship’s hull will start to lose integrity. BE AWARE, when your WEP capacitor is low, more heat will bleed out from the weapon’s cooling loop and increase your ship’s temperature. Reboot and Repair There is a new option in the Functions Tab: [REBOOT/REPAIR] Use this to initiate a diagnostics and repair sequence. During this sequence, your ship will cannibalise healthy modules to repair completely broken ones. Each broken module will be brought back online with a couple of percentage points of health. For every percentage point of health repaired, double this amount is taken from randomly selected healthy modules. This sequence will fail if you have no modules with more than 5% health, or if you have no completely broken modules. The sequence cannot repair hull or canopy failure. Warning, once imitated, you will have no ship control until the process is complete. Shield Boosters You can purchase and fit shield boosters to utility mounts. Each booster increases your shields overall strength by a set amount when the booster is powered. Be aware, increasing your shield strength in this manner will cause regeneration, including time required to reform after breaking, to increase. Hull upgrade packages You can purchase and fit hull upgrade packages for internal slots. Each hull upgrade package increases your ship’s overall hull integrity. Be aware, hull upgrade packages have mass that may impact negatively on a ship’s flight characteristics. Signal Source Strength You will encounter weak and strong signal sources. Weak signal sources *tend* to imply that few vessels are present. Strong signal sources *tend* to imply that many vessels are present. Be aware of elevated risk when investigating strong signal sources. Flying as a wing may help: there’s normally safety in numbers. Interface Updates Heat Bar Update The ship’s heat bar has been updated. It is now clearly segmented. The bottom, largest segment represents nominal ship temperature; no heat damage will occur if the ship’s temperature is in this segment. The middle, smaller segment represents unsafe ship temperature. This segment will flash red when ship heat is within it, and alarms will sound, as well as short circuiting effects. Your modules will take damage when ship heat is in this segment. The top, smallest segment represents catastrophic ship temperature. This segment will flash faster when ship heat is within it, in additional to all other indicators. Your ship hull will lose integrity when ship heat is in this segment. Comms Panel Update The Comms Panel interface has been updated to allow more functionality. Once you have selected the Comms Panel [use focus mode or Comms hotkey], you can use standard interface controls to navigate the Comms Panel, cycling through four tabbed screens: Comms Text Feed: view incoming text comms and send text comms · Untargeted (local) comms will be broadcast to *all* nearby ships · Use [TAB] to cycle through valid message recipients · Use [/r] to respond to the last ship that you received comms from · Use [/t] to send comms directly to targeted ship · Use [/w] to send comms to all wingmen Comms text is colour coded: · Orange: local broadcast · Cyan: wing broadcast · Yellow: Direct transmission · Red: authority broadcast Comms Contacts: view and interact with contacts · Highlight and select a contact to summon comms and wings options Inbox: view and interact with invites and messages · Highlight accept/decline icons to accept or decline a wing invitation Comms Options: view and alter text and voice settings · Highlight and select options to toggle them You can use standard interface controls to navigate the Comms Panel.
